'Texts' artist statement

In 2014, Tinder co-founder Whitney Wolfe sued the Match Group (the parent company of Tinder) for sexual harassment in the workplace. Wolfe alleged that she was forced to resign after Justin Mateen, a co-founder and ex-lover, had sent her a series of abusive texts, while Sean Rad, CEO of Tinder, offered no support after she had brought the situation to his attention.

When Wolfe went public with the lawsuit, a series of reproductions of text messages between the three parties were released as evidence in the case. These intensely private documents, made public, form the basis of this series. In November 2014, the case was reportedly settled out of court for just over $1 million.
